Australia Gold Sovereigns

Australia Gold Sovereigns
Australia Gold sovereigns started to be minted in Australia during the year 1855 with the opening of the Sydney Mint. These sovereigns were Australian Sovereigns which were all struck between 1855 and 1870, thereafter from 1871 onwards it was Imperial sovereigns that were struck at all three mints. The opening of the Sydney Mint was closely followed by the opening of the second mint in Melbourne in 1872 and then in 1899 a third sovereign mint was opened in Perth. Why were these mints opened in these locations? Simple, the logistics made perfect sense, this was also where the gold mines were.
Nowadays the Royal Australian Mint is historically unique in that it is the first mint in Australia not to be a branch of the Royal Mint in London.
Australian gold sovereigns are one of the rarest and most sought after gold sovereigns.
